It brings together scholars and practitioners to exchange information and views on all areas of international law. The legal fields covered include all subfields of public international law and private international law (conflict of laws), as well as the relationship between international law and domestic law.

DVIR members collaborate on a national and international level in their respective fields and represent German academia and practice on the committees of the ILA. The exchange of information and views takes place at the national level during the annual general meetings, which feature an academic program, and at the international level during the ILA conferences held every two years in different regions of the world.

Members of the DVIR include university professors and early-career scholars, staff of government and international institutions, attorneys, and in-house counsel, as well as other legal professionals interested in the study of international law. Both experienced and younger members are welcome to join the association.
